Mormon women and men are not inherently better cooks than other individuals. What sets Mormons apart, however, is that in the past many Mormons were clustered in Utah, USA and developed a close-knit Mormon culture that included lots of social gatherings and shared recipes. Mormons are also encouraged to plan for future emergencies by having at least a 3-month supply of food and water and a 72-hour emergency kit handy to “grab and go” in local emergencies such as tornadoes or hurricanes. Therefore you’ll find many recipes which use basic food storage items such as wheat, oatmeal, beans, oil, and rice. Please note these are truly “down-home” recipes.  Not all these recipes may be exclusive to Mormon cooks, but they are used in many Mormon homes to feed families deliciously and inexpensively.
